Pronunciation Guide Maker

List the names and words your narrator must get right, spell out how to say them, record each one, and share it as a PDF or a ZIP with the audio.

Write “Say it” as a respelling with the stressed syllable in capitals: eh-LOH-wen. Add IPA if you know it, and a note on where it comes from (the author, a dictionary, a native speaker).

Why a guide saves a production

A character name said two ways across a 12-hour book means pickups, and pickups mean another session, another edit and another round of mastering. Agreeing on every tricky word before the first chapter is the cheapest fix there is. For a series, keep the guide and pass it to the next book’s narrator.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is a pronunciation guide for an audiobook?

A list of every word the narrator might say wrong: character and place names, invented words, foreign phrases and technical terms, each with how to say it. Authors give one to their narrator before recording; narrators make their own for consistency across a series.

How should I write pronunciations?

Respell the word with hyphens between syllables and the stressed one in capitals, using everyday English sounds: “eh-LOH-wen”, “porth-KUR-noh”. IPA is more exact but fewer narrators read it. A recording beats both, so record the author saying each word.

Can it find the names in my book?

Yes. Drop your manuscript into the manuscript analyzer: it lists capitalised words used three or more times, and its “Start a pronunciation guide” button brings them here.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Your guide stays in your browser: the text is remembered on this device, and recordings stay on the page until you download them.
